document.write('Be sure to visit the Trials and Events page for upcoming Scent Work events.MondayTuesdayWednesdayThursdayFriday1:00 PM2023Foundations 1Feb 8 - Mar 22Aug 16 - Sep 27Foundations 2Apr 12 - May 24Oct 18 - Nov 29NoviceJun 14 - Jul 26-----------------2024NoviceJan 3 - Feb 146:00 PM2023Excellent Containersand BeyondFeb 21 - Mar 21High & LowApr 11 - May 9Oh, No!How Many Hides?May 23 - Jun 20 7:30 PM2023Foundations 2Jan 31 - Mar 28Aug 29 - Oct 24NoviceApr 11 - May 30Nov 14 - Jan 16Foundations 1Jun 13 - Aug 15QCDTC Scent Work ClassesØ  Foundations 1 – 7 weeks of fun for the dog.  At this introductory class, dogs will be given the opportunity to search for “cookies” where they never thought cookies would be located!  This class will help dogs understand that while they are searching, it is their world, and they are not required to do anything but search.  Dogs will learn that they can go through tight places, under objects, complete obstacle courses, take cookies off of chairs and go where they never thought they would be able to go before (or allowed to go). §  Class limited to a maximum of 7 teams   Ø  Foundations 2 – 7 weeks of focus on the handler.  This class is an introduction to the handler’s role in scent work.  Handler will be taught all the skills needed to compete in any scent work venue.  Dogs will learn how to find odor in an ever-increasing maize of objects.  Each team must have passed Foundations 1. §  Class limited to a maximum of 7 teams   Ø  Novice– 7 weeks of learning how to work as a team.  Handlers will begin to recognize their dog’s communication methods telling them they found it.  Additional odors that are used in competition are introduced.  Each team must have passed Foundations 2. §  Class limited to a maximum of 7 teams   Ø  Advanced Skills & Drills – 7 weeks of odor puzzles including suspended and elevated hides; accuracy drills; and inaccessible and barely accessible hides.  Each team must have passed Novice and have instructor approval. §  Class limited to a maximum of 7 teams   Ø  Handler Discrimination – 7 weeks of teaching the dog to search for and identify their handler’s odor.   Ø  Excellent/Master- Class is conducted as a run through format with individual feedback tailored to each team.  Blank areas will be included.  Students must be ready to compete in NACSW NW3 or AKC Excellent.   Ø  Short Sessions – 4 weeks:   §  Scent Work Games For Fun – Play a different game each week to improve your scent work skills.  Class limited to a maximum of 7 teams.  Must have passed Novice.   §  Reading Your Dog – Understanding Change of Behavior – Learn how to read your dog and identify his/her change of behavior when sourcing odor.  Class limited to a maximum of 7 teams.  Must have passed Novice but geared for those handlers who are still struggling with reading their dogs.   §  Start Lines and Thresholds – Start lines in scent work can set the tone for your team’s success.  This class addresses the key points in having a good start to your search.  It will also address “resets” or re-starts.  Threshold searches, or odor placed right at the start of the search, will also be covered.  Must have passed Novice.   §  Excellent Containers and Beyond – This class will cover AKC excellent level containers, including discussions regarding fringe odors, odor absorption as related to container materials, and food distractors.  Areas without odor and search areas with an unknown number of hides will also be addressed.  Students must be ready to compete in NACSW NW2 or AKC Advanced or Excellent searches.   §  High & Low – This class will present odors that are 4 feet and above, as well as odors that are on the ground, in order to teach the dogs to search both high and low.  The class should help students understand the process the dog uses in locating high odors.  Students must be ready to compete in NACSW NW1 or AKC Advanced searches.   §  Oh, No!!!  How Many Hides??? – This class is designed to help handlers read the messages their dog is giving to them in areas that have no odor.  It will also help students to identify when their dog has located all odors in settings where the number of odors is unknown.  Students must be ready to compete in NACSW NW2 or AKC Advanced or Excellent searches.   Ø  Match Run Throughs and/or ORT preparation for anyone trialing that weekend.  ');
